The title of this workshop is really emblematic and its meaning represents what we’ll be living together around Naples in a real street-photography adventure. “Quann’ ‘o mare è calmo, ogni strunz è marenaro” (when the sea is calm, everyone can be a sailor) has a very clear meaning: “it is only when things get more difficult that the real competences come out “. We’ll see the real Naples and I will teach some principles of photography but, above all, I will try to pass down to you my innate passion for people, whoever they are. I do like feeling part of a scene, going into people’s life, even for one minute only, and photographing them from the inside without being too intrusive.
TOUR LEADERS :
PAOLA MARIA TRASPEDINI: she describes herself as a compulsive traveler. When she was 8, her parents gave her a globe: it became her favorite game. She kept turning it, coming back to the places, towns, island that she has finally visited once grown up. These were just the first destinations part of a long list that has not been completed yet. She has visited 62 countries so far, but there are still a lot of places into her long-cherished dreams. In the last years, this passion became a real job: she decided to use all her experience for organizing travels for all the ones who want to live the most beautiful adventure: going around the world.
FRANCESCO RICCIO: Born in 1985, deeply in love with his beautiful city, Naples, Francesco has been exploring its narrow streets since he was young, using his beloved mountain bike and photographing the lights and the shadows of this manifold city with his reflex, trying to fix the real life and to enhance its nature, more and more hidden by concrete. Graduated in “Natural Sciences”, he travels around the world for fun and for business, with his will of adventure and curiosity. He leads groups of tourists around his region, Campania, along its mountain enchanting paths to discover beautiful landscapes among sky, sea and land.
RICCARDO CORNAGLIA (www.riccardocornaglia.it) was born in 1978 in Moncalvo, a small town in the hearth of Monferrato/Piedmont. Hardened traveler and reportage photographer with a lot of experience in street photography field. He has achieved very good results in travel and wedding photography. ANFM member for several years with the prestigious status of ANFM SELECTED. He promotes several photographic projects and he teaches photography. He doesn’t like talking about himself and his past since he thinks that the most interesting part of his life is yet to come. His strength is to be able to be next to anyone who wants to learn, not as a pure teacher.
Naples has lots of contrasts: lights and shadows, sea and land, as symbols of the never-ending culture war between good and evil. We’ll explore narrow streets where even the mid-day light can’t enter, getting in touch with the people who live there their everyday life. We’ll listen to their stories, which talk about “bassi” ( typical small apartments located directly on the street) and we’ll feel like being part of this city for such a long time. Small shops are just next to international brands stores. Markets, chaos, screams and shoves will throw you into a very confusing reality, that only locals live as a normal and quite life. Day by day, you will understand, you too.
Details, faces that tell hundreds of stories: photographing Naples means sitting at the corner of a narrow street waiting for something to happen. Inspiration doesn’t have to be searched: this city will overwhelm you. It is not easy to plan every single detail in Naples and the program can be changed simply due to a hearse, a bride coming out from a church or a religious cortege…everything can happen. Be open-minded without any prejudice, and this city will welcome you as friends.
